Mission Statement:
The Rainbow Community Center of Contra Costa County builds community among LGBTQ persons and their allies through social opportunities, health and wellness services, and awareness programs.
Vision Statement
The Rainbow Community Center of Contra Costa County envisions a society that embraces acceptance, safety and equality for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression.
History of the Organization
The RCC began in 1992 as a satellite office of the Berkeley Pacific Center and became an independent nonprofit in 1996. The RCC is Contra Costa County's only nonprofit organization whose sole focus is meeting the needs of LGBTQ persons.
Our programs are designed to promote community involvement through volunteerism and service.
We are a community-based grass roots organization with three part-time staff: a youth program director, an office manager and a food bank coordinator. Currently, in lieu of an executive director, board members operate as a collective and work together to coordinate and manage center operations.
Our board is comprised of working professionals from various backgrounds, ethnicities, and socio-economic status. As a part of a self-study on youth service needs the agency recently established two new youth positions on our board. Board members ages now range from 18 to 77 (plus two alternate youth members who are in middle school and high school). The strong commitment of the center's board and volunteers exemplifies our community-based service model. Without their dedicated support the organization could not operate.
